Read allEveryone has their favourite corner on the Adriatic coast and there are probably infinite lists one could make of the most beautiful Dalmatian islands, but we wanted to present our favourites ?
From walking trails, beautiful hidden beaches, to the renowned world-class restaurants and mysterious caves – Vis can truly offer something for everybody. Don’t miss the chance to visit the Stiniva bay, whose beach was formed after a cave collapsed. Apart from bearing the status of a protected landscape, in 2016 it was declared the most beautiful European beach.
Those yearning for historical adventures will definitely want to visit the Tito cave, and a walk thought the stone streets of the two largest towns, Vis and Komiža, will return you to the days of long ago.
Vis abounds with events as well, one of the most prominent ones being the Vis Cultural Summer, Vis Regatta and the Vis Swimming Marathon. Finally, don’t leave before you taste the world-famous Vis sweet bread (Viška pogača) made from salted sardines.
It is called the most sunny island in the Adriatic, due to its annual average of 2726 sunny hours. However, sun is not the only thing Hvar has to offer. It will take you several days just to explore its rich cultural heritage: the Hvar Theatre which was founded in 1612 (first city theatre in Europe), located above the Arsenal that used to serve for repairing galleys, then there is the 16th century summer villa constructed by the famous Croatian Renaissance poet Petar Hektorović, as well as the Franciscan and Dominican monasteries.
Hvar is also a well-known destination for young people. It supplements its natural and cultural offer with numerous night clubs where the dancing and fun don’t stop until early in the morning.
And once you’ve seen everything the island has to offer, we suggest a trip to the Modra (Blue) and Zelena (Green) Caves – unique examples of how magical nature can be.
Pag cheese, Pag salt, Pag lage, Pag lamb… All these are reasons to visit this island in the north of Dalmatia. The south part of the island is connected with the land by a bridge, and the north part by a ferry line. Not only is the island easy to reach, it is also a great starting point for numerous trips to the gems of the surrounding land area (National Parks Plitvice, Krka, Kornati and Paklenica).
The young will particularly enjoy the Zrće beach, which has become synonymous with good fun and quality electronic music, while those seeking peace will refresh their bodies and souls by taking a walk though the historic stone streets of this island from the Antiquity.
Finally, let’s not forget to mention that Pag offers plenty of possibilities for active holiday enthusiasts – from exciting cycling tours, through hiking trails, to diving offered by several diving centres.
Venetians, Romans, Greeks, even prehistoric man – they’ve all left their mark on this historical island in the south of Dalmatia. The central town, also named Korčula, is fortified by high walls, and the streets are shaped like a fish bone. This enables easy movement on the one hand, and protects the inhabitants from strong wind gusts on the other. History buffs will surely want to visit the Gothic-Renaissance cathedral of St. Mark, the birth-house of Marco polo, and the historical centre of the city of Korčula. For refreshment, you can visit one of the numerous beautiful beaches – we would recommend the picturesque Žitna beach and the sandy Vela Pržina beach.
If you happen to visit Korčula in late July, make sure to check out the famous Moreška traditional sword dance. Also, don’t leave before you try the local variety of rozata (type of flan), various almond cakes and Korčula dried figs.
Once you finally select one of these beautiful, exciting islands for your next summer holiday, contact us and we will help you secure a perfect holiday.
