The Gorski Kotar region is renowned for its stunning natural beauty and diverse landscapes, making it a haven for nature lovers, recreational enthusiasts, and hikers. From lush forests and river springs to rocky mountain peaks and tranquil lakes, Gorski Kotar offers a wide range of hiking and walking trails that cater to all skill levels and walker abilities. In this text, we will highlight three trails in Gorski Kotar that all visitors can enjoy, regardless of age and fitness level.

Kamačnik Trail This is a well-maintained trail that follows the first part of the Kamačnik River, starting in Vrbovsko. It begins from a restaurant and leads towards the source of the river. It’s a very short and not physically demanding trail, making it ideal for excursions for all ages. The beautiful forested landscape accompanied by the soothing sound of the river is the perfect escape from everyday life. Information boards about local flora and fauna are placed along the trail, making it a perfect opportunity to start exploring the gems of Gorski Kotar. After the walk, you can refresh yourself at the restaurant at the entrance while enjoying a view of the river.

Risnjak National Park: Leska Educational Trail Risnjak National Park is a gem of Gorski Kotar that offers various hiking opportunities. The park is named after the Risnjak mountain, which reaches a height of 1,528 meters. Trails here will take you through dense beech and fir forests, rocky terrain, and picturesque meadows. One of the simpler trails in the national park is the Leska Educational Trail in Crni Lug, lined with informative panels along its length that provide visitors with a better understanding of the nature and cultural heritage of the area. It’s very easy and perfect for family outings, but adults will also enjoy it.

Fužine: Bajer and Lepenica Lakeside Trail From the charming town of Fužine, which is already a popular tourist destination in Gorski Kotar, a completely flat and well-maintained trail leads around Bajer and Lepenica lakes. This makes it a very popular destination for visitors of all ages. Besides the enchanting view of the lakes and surrounding forests, you can also enjoy the sight of lake inhabitants, ducks, and swans, which will particularly delight the youngest visitors. Moreover, swimming is allowed in some areas of the lake, making this trail an ideal destination for a summer outing. During summer, you can also explore the trail by a tourist train instead of walking.

These are just a few of the numerous trails in Gorski Kotar. Aside from its breathtaking nature, another great advantage of Gorski Kotar is its location. It’s centrally positioned on the map of Croatia, making it easily accessible from most other parts of the country. The region is where the highway branches off, providing excellent connectivity with northern Croatia, Istria, Kvarner, and even Dalmatia. For instance, if you’re coming from Zagreb or Istria, you can reach Gorski Kotar in less than two hours, and if you’re coming from Rijeka, the journey will take an hour or even less. Moreover, besides the highway, there are numerous local roads connecting places within and outside Gorski Kotar. Furthermore, a personal vehicle isn’t the only option, as a train passes through this region, connecting it with other parts of Croatia, and there are also bus lines. All of this makes Gorski Kotar an easily accessible and ideal destination for an excursion during your seaside vacation. After an exciting day of hiking, rest in your accommodation that you’ve found on the Molo Longo agency website.
