No, thalassotherapy is not yet another way of getting rid of cellulite. The name is derived from the Greek word for the sea (thalassa) and it means therapies that use the natural curative characteristics of the sea and coastal surroundings in their healing processes. It combines the benefits of the sea, sea air and sunlight, and it is equally useful in preventing non-communicable diseases of the modern society (largely caused by lack of movement), in facilitating faster reconvalescence, as therapy for various kinds of rheum and back pain, as well as a form of recreation for healthy people.

Sea water

The Adriatic is one of the cleanest seas in Europe, so it is no surprise that it is considered one of the top choices for thalassotherapy. North Adriatic is particularly specific for its slightly higher saltiness, and it is well known that sea salt helps with skin conditions such as psoriasis, dermatitis and eczema, but also with maintaining the healthy appearance of normal skin.

Specialized institutions that practice thalassotherapy often use special pools with heated sea water for conducting different forms of therapy: sea water inhalations, hydromassages, physical therapy, recreational swimming.

Sunlight

Although caution is always needed when exposing your skin to the sun, sunlight and warmth do have certain positive effects on the human body. Ultraviolet light increases the calcium metabolism, and the warmth of the sun relaxes muscles and raises your mood.

Mediterranean vegetation and climate

Mediterranean plants often posses aromatherapy characteristics, which contributes to decreasing stress levels, has a positive impact on airways and improves concentration and quality of sleep. Air, particularly in the Kvarner area, contains raised levels of ozone, chlorine, sodium and iodine, and is of optimal moisture.

Although various forms of thalassotherapy are available in several healthcare facilities throughout the Adriatic, you can enjoy the benefits of the sea yourselves as well. Treat your body to a quality, natural wellness treatment, and leave the rest to us.
